The Dolomites Best Photography Spots Including Exact Locations

The Dolomites boast countless amazing photography spots. If you have planned a trip to this unique place, in this guide you will find the Dolomites best photography spots with the exact locations. When we think of a holiday in the mountains, it is no coincidence that the Dolomites are one of our first choices. In fact, in this beautiful area located in the north of Italy, there are unique and dreamlike landscapes that are worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. So whether you are a professional photographer or a passionate amateur you must not miss this list of photography spots in the Dolomites.

Braies Lake / Pragser Wildsee

Lake Braies, also known as Pragser Wildsee, is definitely one of the most beautiful lakes in the Dolomites and also our favorite. Located in Val di Braies at 1,496 m, this lake is a very touristy and crowded place in both summer and winter. For this reason, we highly recommend that you arrive in the morning before 8-9 not only for your photos but also to find a place for the car! In fact, after 10 in the morning, the lake becomes more and more crowded. Our favorite spot is on the natural lake jetty as well as on the rental wooden boats. Yes, it’s possible to rent one of the wooden boats and take a small tour of the lake. Very romantic.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo / Drei Zinnen

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo, called in German Drei Zinnen, are natural wonders well known in the world of mountaineering. These three peaks are almost 3,000 meters high and can be reached via path 101 from the Auronzo refuge. Our favorite place to take pictures is at the Locatelli refuge. In fact, from this refuge, you will enjoy a wide view of the Three Peaks in all their grandeur. Another good spot for your photos is at the Forcella Lavaredo, about halfway between the Auronzo Refuge and Locatelli on path 101. Also, if you want to take night photos of the starry sky or at sunset, the Locatelli Refuge offers some rooms for sleeping.

The Church of San Giovanni in Ranui

If you are a photography enthusiast at least once you will have seen a photo of this church. In fact, the Church of San Giovanni in Ranui is one of the most photographed subjects in the Dolomites. Located in Funes, the small church enjoys a unique location with picturesque scenery. Usually, the area around the church is not crowded. So you will easily find a place for your photos. Also, try visiting this church at sunrise for your perfect shot.

Carezza Lake / Karersee

Lake Carezza, called Karersee in German, is a small alpine lake located at 1,534 m near the town of Nova Levante. This beautiful lake is surrounded by dense fir woods, under the slopes of the Latemar. Furthermore, Lake Carezza is usually crowded especially in summer. For this reason, we recommend you to arrive as early as possible in the morning for your photos. Remember that it’s forbidden to swim in the lake and to go beyond the fence around the lake. So for example it’s not allowed to climb rocks in the water.

Alpe di Siusi / Seiser Alm

One of the most incredible places we have visited in the Dolomites. The Alpe di Siusi, Seiser Alm in German, is a Dolomite plateau located in South Tyrol, within the territory of the municipality of Castelrotto. The view of the Sassolungo group is one of the most loved spots by photographers. This area is very large and for this reason there is no specific spot for your best shot. However, you must first reach the Compaccio car park by passing the gate after 5 pm. Remember that cars are not allowed in this area from 9am to 5pm.

Plan de Corones / Kronplatz

Plan de Corones, also known as Kronplatz, is a 2275m high mountain that offers a wide view of the surrounding mountains and much more. In fact, above you will find one of the “MMM” museums (Messner Mountain Museum), commissioned by the South Tyrolean mountaineer Reinhold Messner. The museum, designed by the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid, is one of the beautiful spots to photograph. As well as you will find other spots on this plateau that we recommend you visit.

QC Terme Dolomiti

Not just a spot for your photos. In fact, the QC Terme Dolomiti is a wellness center in the Unesco heritage of Trentino’s Dolomites. In addition to the numerous swimming pools and spa treatments, you will find hot tubs outside. You have to be patient to find the right moment to take your picture in one of the hot tubs. In fact, the QC Terme are usually very crowded, especially in high season.

Vajolet Towers

The Vajolet Towers are a set of seven mountain peaks that rise in the center of the Catinaccio Group. Also, they are a very popular photo spot. However, reaching the Vajolet Towers is not easy. The easiest part is to reach the Vajolet refuge after a mixed trek between rocks and forest. From the Vajolet Refuge, take the path that climbs the gorge of the towers from the right side. You pass some aided sections, a stream and some hairpin bends. So finally after about an hour, you reach the Re Alberto Refuge and then the towers.

Seceda

One of our favorite places in the Dolomites, also one of the most photographed spots. Seceda is a perfect spot for your photos in both summer and winter. It’s possible to reach Seceda via two cable car stops from the center of Ortisei and then Furnes. So once you reach the top, exit the cable car and walk to the left. This way you will get closer to the best view of the Odle from the summit of Seceda. Don’t miss this spot!
